A trip to the North Lanes in Brighton is always a treat especially when you come across an innovative idea for retail interiors.
The Jewel Thief is as you’ve guessed – a jewellery shop solely dedicated to the championing of contemporary jewellery designers.
From the outside – it was the jewellery that caught my eye but when I crossed the threshold – it was the lighting that dazzled.
Hung perfectly above each display unit the use of pendant lighting highlighted the jewellery to perfection whilst the shop was relatively dark inside (a definite ambient design trend at the moment). Here at Tastemodern we really love the look and feel of showing off the mechanics – the nolts, bolts, brackets and in this case cabling, as they can be an art form in themselves.
The owner assured me that he was working on a tight budget for the shop interiors and the lighting came out of financial necessity. I think he is being modest as not many shop owners could have come up with a system of lighting that looks like spaghetti junction suspended from the ceiling and make it look innovative and funky in design terms.
It may or may not be to your taste but we give The Jewel Thief the big thumbs up!
